Who we are
First Read Club (firstreadclub.com) is operated by Nordic Content Group Oy, a company registered in Finland (business ID 3589679-1). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@firstreadclub.com.
What we collect and why
When you request a free copy of a book through our sign-up form, we collect:
- Your first name and email address, so we can send you the book and follow-up emails.
- Whether you ticked the optional review-reminder box, so we know whether to send you a reminder.
- The date and time you signed up, and which book you requested.
We use this data to deliver the book, send a small number of follow-up emails about that book (a check-in and, if you asked for it, a reminder to leave an honest review), and to let you know about future books from the same publisher. We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not share it with other companies for their own marketing.
Legal basis
We process your data on the basis of your consent, which you give by submitting the sign-up form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any of our emails or by writing to us.
Reviews
Receiving a free book from us is never conditional on leaving a review. If you choose to review a book on Amazon or elsewhere, you are free to say whatever you honestly think, and we never ask for a particular rating.
How long we keep your data
We keep your name and email address for as long as you remain on our reader list. If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you immediately and delete your details within 30 days, unless we need to keep a record of the unsubscribe itself to make sure we honour it.
Who processes your data
Our website and email are hosted by Hostinger, whose servers are located in the European Union. Emails are sent from our own domain. We do not use third-party email marketing platforms.
If we run advertising on Facebook or Instagram, this site may use the Meta Pixel to measure whether people who saw an ad signed up. The pixel does not receive your name or email address from our form. You can control ad personalisation in your Facebook settings.
Cookies
This site does not use cookies for tracking, except for the Meta Pixel described above when advertising is active. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from Google’s servers when you visit the site.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive a copy of it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@firstreadclub.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi) or the supervisory authority in your own country.
Children
Our books are for children, but our website and emails are for the parents and adults who sign up. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete the record.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
